I've just started my journey as self taught on the violin and this book was recommended by many people including people where I bought my student violin. It seems right up my alley and looks like it doesn't just plop you right in the super hard stuff, rather gradually ramping up the difficulty which is great in my opinion. Seems solid for any tutored curriculum as well.
If you're starting out learning third position, as I am, this is just your speed. It starts out very easy, then gets progressively more difficult. I'm still in the beginning of the book, so can't comment on the later sections, but I'm enjoying the pieces, switching back and forth between playing them in first and third positions to see how much easier it can be in the higher position.
Good price. Was asked to get this for my daughter by her private lessons teacher to help her improve and it has been used in most of her lessons and at home practice since.

Very nice, thorough studies of positions, shifting. Very well put together. Starting from very easy exercises and getting to more challenging. Great technique developing pieces. My children work daily through these exercises and I see their progress, slowly but surely.
